Shaniah Smith
Doula, Perinatal Educator, BA
Shaniah is a certified Birth Doula through COPE (Certified Perinatal Educator Training) and is based in the Minneapolis area. Shaniah has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Social justice with a concentration in Reproductive Justice from Hamline University. Growing up she was always naturally drawn to working in environments focused on family and children wellbeing and later discovered an interest in birthwork through her time obtaining her Bachelors degree and taking courses focused on child development, reproductive health, parenting, and family dynamics. Her interest and passions further developed after her time interning and later working at Everyday Miracles as the Office and Education coordinator from 2019-2021. After being trained as a Doula and Perinatal Educator in 2020, Shaniah began her official birthwork journey as an on-call doula in the HCMC on-call doula program. Though she loved attending births, she realized she preferred being able to build longer-term relationships and connections with clients and families, and therefore ventured out to working with clients in a more traditional doula role. Shaniah considers knowledge and evidenced-based information to not only be empowering and impactful but essential to how she approaches doula work and how she supports clients in being able to make informed and aligned choices for them.
As a doula, Shaniah takes a holistic, collaborative, and tailored approach focusing on all aspects of wellness including mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and environmental. She believes in the power of storytelling, support, community and the interconnectedness between us all while also recognizing the beauty and sacredness within each individual birth story. Shaniah is passionate about self care, non-traditional healing modalities, herbalism, connecting with nature, spirituality, astrology and reclaiming our stories and strives to incorporate these aspects into her work as much as possible. In her free time Shaniah enjoys going for walks/hikes, being out in nature, writing, reading, coloring, trying new restaurants, dancing, and listening to music.

Alexis Jacobs
Doula
Hey there! My name is Alexis, I’m a full spectrum doula with the Snuggle House Foundation with a background in childcare and household management. My path into birth work grew from a deep appreciation for the care, patience, and trust it takes to support people through life’s biggest transitions.
As a doula, I support birth givers through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and newborn care with compassion and respect. I believe these moments are not only physical but also emotional and deeply personal. My goal is to create a calm and supportive space where people feel informed, respected, and empowered in their choices while having a steady and reassuring presence along the way.
I’m deeply passionate about community care and believe everyone deserves access to supportive, judgment free care during reproductive experiences.
When I’m not doing doula work, you’ll usually find me kitchen baking testing recipes, traveling somewhere new, making art, or paddle boarding whenever I can get out on the water.

Le Shondra Pope
Doula, Registered Nure
As a registered nurse and trained birth doula, I support those preparing for one of life’s most transformative experiences. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and I currently work as a registered nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit.
As someone who was a young mother, I understand how meaningful compassionate support can be during pregnancy and birth. My approach centers on emotional presence, advocacy, and helping parents feel informed and empowered throughout their birthing journey.
My experience working within the healthcare system also allows me to comfortably support those I work with across a variety of birth settings while helping them feel confident asking questions, understanding their options, and advocating for their needs.
With both clinical insight and a heart for community care, I am dedicated to ensuring that every person I support feels heard, respected, and empowered to incorporate their personal values, culture, and beliefs into their birth experience.
Supporting every birth journey with advocacy, compassion, and respect.

Nydia Gutierrez
Doula
My name is Nydia, and I am a birth and postpartum doula dedicated to supporting families as they navigate this miraculous season of life.
My approach is to honor each family’s unique background, values, and birth preferences. I have a deep love for supporting all families—including couples and single-parent households—so they feel supported, connected, and empowered throughout their journey.
I hold a degree in International Relations, and my professional experience has consistently been connected to the medical field. I have worked as a hospital interpreter, and it was in those spaces that I discovered my passion for birth work by witnessing firsthand the power, vulnerability, and beauty of the birthing experience.
As a parent, I have gained an even deeper appreciation for the miracle of birth. My own postpartum journey also sparked a special interest in lactation support.
I am committed to helping families feel informed, reassured, and empowered as they welcome their baby. I also have a strong interest in supporting natural birth practices (when medically appropriate), skin-to-skin connection, and breastfeeding.
Outside of my doula work, I enjoy spending time in nature, being with my family, and continuing to expand my knowledge so I can better support the families I serve.
As a doula, my goal is to help you feel safe, cared for, and hopeful throughout your journey. It would be an honor to walk alongside your family during this special and transformative time.

Valencia Williams
Doula
Hello everyone, I am Valencia (Vee) Williams, a native of Memphis, Tn. I moved to Minnesota 9 years ago for a safer and more stable life. I am a wife, mother of five and have six beautiful grandchildren. I spent 33 years in childcare before I retired in 2024. When my daughter got pregnant in 2024, I witnessed my daughter being mistreated, from nurses as well as doctors. I had to become her advocate. That experience shaped my need to become a doula. I have always felt the calling of helping. The feeling when I can help mothers who may be feeling unheard or unnoticed during the most important time of their lives is why I love what I do. I never want anyone to feel the way my family did that day and that is why I push so hard for everyone to be treated equally no matter color or size.

Mariana Nord
My journey into birth work began through deeply personal experiences—both my own and those of women close to me. After witnessing multiple friends, and myself, navigate difficult and, at times, disempowering birth experiences, I felt called to be part of the change. I truly believe that every mother and/or birthing person (whatever you choose to identify with) deserves to feel safe, supported, heard, and empowered during one of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their life.
I trained as a doula through CAB and bring both professional training and lived experience into the care I provide. During my first birth, I felt a deep sense of vulnerability and a lack of advocacy. With my second birth, I experienced the profound difference that a doula and strong support system can make—it was empowering, supported, and transformative in the best way. That contrast is what fuels my passion to ensure others do not have to walk through birth feeling alone or unheard.
I am especially committed to advocating for the BIPOC community, where disparities in maternal healthcare outcomes remain deeply concerning. Far too often, melanated women face inequities in treatment, communication, and care. I believe in standing alongside families as both a support system and an advocate, helping to ensure their voices are respected and their needs are met.
Being part of the Snuggle House Foundation aligns deeply with my values. Their mission to uplift, support, and advocate for underserved communities is work I wholeheartedly stand behind. I am honored to serve families with compassion, presence, and intention—because everyone deserves a happy, healthy, and supported birthing experience.
