  • Tricia Alexander

    Doula, Perinatal Educator, Licensed Dietician

Tricia has a background in nutrition and is a licensed dietitian. Her interests have always been centered around Black women and children with her research focusing on Black women’s body image and eating behaviors.

In summer of 2020, seeing the photo of Thema - a young, Black pregnant woman - at one of the D.C. marches for George Floyd and other Black lives gave her the push she needed to pursue her passion for birth work. It is important for her to engage with community in her work, and she was struggling to do so within the structure of higher education - which is steeped in racism, colorism, classism, and other forms of oppression. She has served 30 families on their birth journey so far and is eager to support her community in reclaiming their birth experiences.

  • Ebony L.W.S

    Doula, Perinatal Educator, MSW

May God bless each and everyone of you! It is an honor and a blessing, to be apart of the Snuggle House Foundation!

I have been a certified/registered perinatal, labor/delivery, and postpartum Doula for about 2 years. I have had the privilege to support a few mama's and families as a Doula. It is exciting to encourage more mamas to activate the power they have within. Owning and embracing our God given gift to bear and birth children is a beautiful journey worth taking. One thing I have learned during my short time working with mama's is, noticing the signs of Perinatal or Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD's). I am interested in sharing my knowledge and skills to support mama's who struggle with PMADS. I have learned useful information about and trained other organizations on this topic.

I have recently received my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health-Social Work. Currently, I am studying to soon take my license exam and become a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW). My vast range of experience in social services has helped me learn many techniques, strategies, and ways to work with people who have different in belief systems, cultural preferences, and life experiences.

Being a mother of 1 amazing son and witnessing other mama's experience pregnancy, labor/delivery, and postpartum encouraged me to advocate and support Mamas. In my free time I enjoy organizing and decorating my apartment. I love spending time with my son, learning new things, and improving myself in many ways. I also pray and attend church often.

I look forward to Building and Bonding!

  • Shaniah Smith

    Doula, Perinatal Educator, BA

Shaniah is a certified Birth Doula through COPE (Certified Perinatal Educator Training) and is based in the Minneapolis area. Shaniah has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Social justice with a concentration in Reproductive Justice from Hamline University. Growing up she was always naturally drawn to working in environments focused on family and children wellbeing and later discovered an interest in birthwork through her time obtaining her Bachelors degree and taking courses focused on child development, reproductive health, parenting, and family dynamics. Her interest and passions further developed after her time interning and later working at Everyday Miracles as the Office and Education coordinator from 2019-2021. After being trained as a Doula and Perinatal Educator in 2020, Shaniah began her official birthwork journey as an on-call doula in the HCMC on-call doula program. Though she loved attending births, she realized she preferred being able to build longer-term relationships and connections with clients and families, and therefore ventured out to working with clients in a more traditional doula role. Shaniah considers knowledge and evidenced-based information to not only be empowering and impactful but essential to how she approaches doula work and how she supports clients in being able to make informed and aligned choices for them.

As a doula, Shaniah takes a holistic, collaborative, and tailored approach focusing on all aspects of wellness including mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and environmental. She believes in the power of storytelling, support, community and the interconnectedness between us all while also recognizing the beauty and sacredness within each individual birth story. Shaniah is passionate about self care, non-traditional healing modalities, herbalism, connecting with nature, spirituality, astrology and reclaiming our stories and strives to incorporate these aspects into her work as much as possible. In her free time Shaniah enjoys going for walks/hikes, being out in nature, writing, reading, coloring, trying new restaurants, dancing, and listening to music.

  • Liza Williamson

    Doula, Perinatal Educator

Liza is a Birth, postpartum doula/educator and Lactation peer counselor in Northern Minnesota (Duluth). She decided this was her calling for life after having her own bundle and not being supported as she hoped. She really would have loved to have a doula and preferably someone who looked like her in the delivery room but two things 1 none of the doulas in my area looked like me (a woman of color) and 2 none of the doulas took insurance so she needed to pay out of pocket. So she decided to take the training to prepare herself for her birth then learned she had been doing this work majority of her life. When she is not in the delivery room she is teaching, chasing behind her 2 year old son or pouring intention candles. She loves all things natural and holistic and loves learning about astrology. She works in her community as a young mom educator and works with Minnesota prison doula program. She hopes with this path in life to be able to encourage, empower and educate the women of color in her community to have the best pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Her long term goal is to become a Midwife and herbal medicine lady.
